Period Russian Praise

The following are exerpts from actual period (with one exception) Russian documents that provide period Russian texts that can be modified to make SCA-style award scrolls.

The single out-of-period text, from 1785, covers themes perfectly suited to SCA award scrolls, and also includes feminine versions of the traditional royal titles, so I've included it even though the language is straying from the Old Slavonic style of the period documents.

With my crude translations, you probably need to have a fairly good understanding of Russian to use these. The texts contain many words and phrases that I do not fully understand yet, but I'll keep working on them. And I hope the information will be useful even in this form.

And in same manner in the true glory and the majesty of empire we taste the fruits and get to know the consequences of action to us subordinate, obedient, valiant, fearless, enterprising and strong Russian people, when with faith to God, loyalty to the throne it is directed, when labor and love for the fatherland as united forces strive predominantly for the general good and when in the military and civil matters an example of leaders encourage subordinates to the acts, the praise, the honor and the glory after itself of desire/wish.  Such chiefs and leaders Russia found, through the flow of eight hundred years from the time of its foundation, among its sons, at any time characteristically it was still to have, and with the help of God and it will stay eternally for the Russian nobility to be characterized by the qualities, which shine to the authorities. Когда знатнейшее и благороднейшее российское дворянство, входя в службы военную или гражданскую, проходит все степени чиноначалия и от юности своей в нижних узнает основание службы, привыкает к трудам и сии нести твердо и терпеливо; а научась послушанию, тем самым приуготовляется к вышнему начальству. За похвальными и жалованными грамотами на память всякаго рода следовали гербы, дипломы на достоинства и патенты на чины, совокупно с наружными украшениями. В честь добродетелям и заслугам установлены всеросийские кавалерские ордены, как вообще надписи свидетельствуют. Орден святаго апостола Андрея Первозваннаго за веру и верность. Святыя великомученицы Екатерины за любовь и отечество. Святаго благовернаго князя Александра Невскаго за труды и отечество.
