A Change of Heart

I set a jumpy mouse trap
Upon the cupboard shelf,
And then I spent the evening
A-shaming of myself.

I threw away the mouse trap
And bought a little cat.
I fed him cream and salmon
To make him very fat.

I hung a bell about his neck
Upon a ribbon gay,
And sent him wandering in the dark
To scare the mice away.
